Green Me Global Festival for Sustainability

The Green Me Global Festival for Sustainability is an annual ecological/environmental film festival, which was initiated in 2008 and has over the years transformed from a lounge to a full blown film festival. It has also grown from a national festival to an international festival. Finalising the festival each year is the award night, during which the best movies from different categories receive awards in prize money.

The festival honors the green filmmakers and awards the Green award, A 5.000 Euro award money channeled to the green film genre. Three different films from various categories are awarded. In 2013, during the 6th edition of the festival, a Nollywood special was featured.

The festival honored for the first time, the Nollywood filmmakers and awarded the Green Me Film Award; A 5.000 Euro award that focuses on the green film genre. A considerable number of movie entries were received and the movie ‚Hoodrush’ by Dimeji Ajibola won the prize.

„We are overjoyed to have received the financial support by the German ministry of foreign affairs, to take this important step of expanding to a new continent. Green Me´s spirit has been well received wholeheartedly by our Nigerian film partners and their official counterparts, thank you, „ says Mr. Nicolai Niemann the president and founder of the festival.

The Green Me Global Festival for Sustainability is a unique festival with four major sections:

Congress Section

The festival engages professional minds in panel discussions on diverse topics. Three different panel discussion sessions, showcasing our special topic for the year ‚Ocean and Water’ would be sitting during the festival. In the panel discussions, we intend to explore ‚ocean and water pollution/preservation’, creating awareness to the danger posed by pollution and proffering solution. Another topic to be explored in a panel discussion is ‚Renewable Energy’.

Marketplace

The festival brings companies, organisations, institutions and NGOs under one umbrella to represent and showcase themselves and exhibit their products and services.

Filmworkshop

As part of the festival activities, we are organising a film workshop for some invited film schools. The idea is for a topic to be introduced to the participating schools and the participants are expected to shoot a short film that expresses the introduced topic. The short film has to be shot and screened within the festival period. The best short film will be awarded with a prize.

This is designed to not only educate the students, but also to help in developing their spontaneous thinking and decision making skills. The workshop would be directed by the German filmmaker Volker Langhoff. We have in participation ten film schools in Lagos. "My Love for teaching roots in my interest for cultural exchange and the mutual benefits of it.

We are proud, that 6 Filmschools confirmed to join us for the 48 hour Short film competition, with the Grand jury decision coming up this weekend." Stated the workshop director Volker Langhorf. The winning school will also receive an award in priz money. With the award money, we encourage filmmakers, especially Nollywood filmmakers to make more environmentally friendly movies.

The objective of the Green Me Global Festival for Sustainability

With the global warming and the imminent destruction of the earth through pollution and land degradation, it is our objective to contribute a quota to ecological preservation by promoting movies that champion this course. Through our panels, forums and workshops, lectures are delivered on courses of pollutions, prevention mechanism and most importantly it’s avoidance.

The idea is to create awareness on this earth threatening danger and encourage individual contribution to nature protection and preservation. It is our ultimate goal to host the Green Me festival in every continent of the world. By so doing, we take our message to the people, rather than wait for people to come to us, which is mostly impossible for financial reasons.

We are leaving no stone unturned in the realisation of this goal. After mapping out a world tour of the festival over four continents in six countries the director for international affairs, Mrs. Nkiru Niemann says: „ The opportunities, and amazing invitations by our world wide partners project a great future for joining forces for the good cause of sustainability. My home country is developing rapidly, and I am glad we get great support despite the fact of multiple pressuring societal challenges."

„Our idea of offering a platform for people, experts and companies who want to commit or support sustainability hopefully entertains, informs and diversifies the perception of socioecologic issues. Thank you for being able to happen in Lagos."
